Commonweal agrees further £0.5M capital to the Re-Unite project

Following the successful first eight months operation of the Re-Unite Project, Commonweal has agreed to commit approximately half-a million pounds worth of additional flats to launch a new strand to the project.

Following the successful first eight months operation of the Re-Unite Project, Commonweal has agreed to commit approximately half-a million pounds worth of additional flats to launch a new strand to the project, and depending on performance, may increase its commitment further.

It has been  agreed that as well as providing homes for mothers to be re-united with their children immediately on release from prison, (now to be called the Re-Unite “Mother & Child Programme”), it would further demonstrate the benefit of Re-Unite if a more challenging strand were included in the programme.

It was agreed that this second strand would house and help the resettlement of mothers who could not be re-united with their children immediately on their release from prison but with resettlement assistance, could reclaim the custody of their children within twelve months.

This strand is to be known as the Re-Unite “Mothers’ Programme” and Commonweal is increasing its housing commitment to the Re-Unite project by providing bed-sits and one-bedroom flats.
