Commonweal shortlisted for women’s housing award

Commonweal Housing has been shortlisted for an award in Inside Housing‘s annual Women in Housing Awards.

We are a finalist in the category ‘Improving the Lives of Women or Communities Award (small)’. Our nomination recognises our work with Solace Women’s Aid and Praxis Community Projects, in our Amari and Rhea projects and our NRPF project respectively.

Amy Doyle, Deputy Chief Executive at Commonweal, said: “We’re so pleased to have been included in this outstanding lineup of women’s housing projects, as well as their excellent leaders, in this year’s Women in Housing Awards shortlist.

“Women are particularly overlooked within mainstream housing provisions, as the causes of their homelessness and destitution are often profoundly gendered. Our unique partnership model has allowed us to share, test and learn a great deal about how these women’s needs can best be met.

“This recognition from Inside Housing will give us that extra boost to keep championing our collaborative action-learning model. We hope to help even more marginalised women in our society out of crisis and emergency and onto freedom and independence, through housing-based solutions to the injustices they endure.”

The Women in Housing Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding women working in the housing sector. The Awards are now in their seventh year.

The judging panel will consist of top professionals and executives across the housing sector, and will be announced soon.

The winners in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony on 10th October. The ceremony will be held at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
