Annual Impact Review 2018/19 reflects on what makes a house feel like home

Commonweal Housing is today launching its 2018/19 annual impact review, detailing and celebrating progress and achievements from the past year.  

A Place to Call My Home looks at how our projects are developing through our action-learning framework, as well as how our beneficiaries are supported by the projects to develop themselves.

Since Commonweal was established in 2006, we have championed the benefits that a safe and stable home can have for those facing social injustices. Now, the 2018/19 review looks at how ‘home’ can mean different things to people at different points in their lives.

Whether it’s as a response to a crisis or emergency, or helping to support people to move on to freedom and independence, we believe that having an appropriate home is always a good place to start.  

Ashley Horsey, CEO at Commonweal Housing, said: “Our range of activities are captured in this our latest impact review. It is structured around the themes of our project cycle, and the two areas of crisis and emergency and freedom and independence.

“The breadth of partners we have worked with, the range of injustice areas, and the different housing solutions we have been able to explore and support is truly humbling.”

This year’s review is also the last published under the leadership of Fiona Mactaggart. Fiona steps down from her position as Commonweal’s Chair in June 2019, and is remaining a trustee of the charity.

She will be succeeded by Steve Douglas CBE, Commonweal trustee and co-Chief Executive of housing consultancy firm Altair. Steve will also be joined by fellow Commonweal trustee Jack Mactaggart as the charity’s Vice-Chair.
