A new Chief Executive for Commonweal
Commonweal Housing has appointed Ashley Horsey as its first Chief Executive.
On announcing the appointment Fiona Mactaggart MP., our Chair, said, “We are delighted that Ashley is joining us at this exciting time for us as part of our plan to take Commonweal to the next level. His experience and track record in establishing new initiatives and delivering real change in the housing sector made him an excellent choice.”
Ashley has more than 20 years experience in social housing, much of it spent tackling homelessness. He is former Head of the Government’s Bed & Breakfast Unit, where he successfully reduced the use of B&B hotels as temporary accommodation for homeless families. He was Chief Executive of the campaigning charity, The Empty Homes Agency from 1998 – 2001.
Most recently Ashley was Commercial Director at Local Space, a new housing association in East London which delivered more than 1,100 additional social homes in just 3 years.
Commenting on his new post Ashley said, “Commonweal exists to find housing solutions to those problems that most others may regard as too difficult to resolve. It’s a fantastic challenge, and one to which I am greatly looking forward.”
