Commonweal Housing's response to Transforming Rehabilitation Inquiry Published

The House of Commons Justice Select Committee have published a submission made by Commonweal Housing in response to their inquiry into Transforming Rehabilitation. 

Commonweal’s response focused on ways in which Through-the-gate provision can be improved to ensure that the needs of primary caregivers and their children are recognised and addressed as a priority. This included the importance of providing greater recognition of the special
housing needs and vulnerabilities of women with children.

The submission, which drew on our experience from the Re-Unite project and the recommendations of the Re-Unite Ten Year Review, also highlighted the need to review the impact of evidence based commissioning and payment by results introduced under T.R.

At the heart of our submission was the call to review into the long-term plan for delivering probation services, with a view to placing the needs of primary caregiver’s – which as we know are predominantly mothers – and their support needs at the heart of any future provision.
